Research assistant positions

The MBE Optoelectronics Group led by Prof. Yong-Hang Zhang have 1-2 graduate research associate (RA) openings for Ph.D. students in EE and Physics. The research focus of the group is on applied physics semiconductor materials and optoelectronic devices such as solar cells, photodetectors and lasers. It has several research programs funded by DOE, AFOSR, ONR, NSF, and industries in the areas of MBE growth, materials physics, device design, processing and their integration. We seek highly motivated applicants with passion and outstanding background in electrical engineering or applied physics. Hands-on experience with materials growth and characterization, device design and processing, and device modeling will be a big plus.

Selected current research projects

  1. Infrared photodetectors using type-II superlattice materials
  2. Novel band-structure engineering and application in single crystal group-IV alloys
  3. Group II-VI compound semiconductor solar cells and related materials research
  4. Short range order in semiconductor
  5. Optical nonlinearity in semiconductor quantum structures
